Parents or guardians are to furnish us with detail information about their ward. Information in respect of their ward school history especially when their ward is below average as pupil and student academic challenges varies. Children are not the same in all ramifications, even twins from the same womb. They possess different traits with respect to their Intelligent Quotient (IQ). At Brain Bashers Tutors, we do not subscribe to a child being a DULLARD. We have a strong conviction that a below average child if given necessary encouragement in the right environment could become A+ student. It worked perfectly especially with the parents or guardian’s cooperation to help their ward grow intelligently. Unfortunately, with our experience in this field span over 20 years, we discovered that some parents do not even know their child at all. We do the discovery by ourselves through our professional approach.
Our tutor needs to know the child in question in totality. It should be noted that our investigation is not limited to the child academic performance in school. It goes beyond that. Some information required that aid our teaching and learning process INCLUDE but not limited to:
1. The current school the child is attending.
2. Did your child start from the school s/he is currently attending or transferred from another school?
3. The curriculum offered in the school- Nigerian, British, American or combined.
4. Introvert or extrovert child.
5. School daily schedule-timetable.
6. The pupil/student personal timetable if any.
7. The child study materials-Text books, notebooks etc.
8. Best subject(s) in school.
9. The teacher he/she like and the subject the teacher teaches.
10. Does the child hate any teacher in school?
11. Best sport in school?
12. Best food?
13. Does he/she have personal room?
14. When does he/she go to bed?
This is purely on academic and it involves entry behavior of the student. That is the knowledge your child has initially at the commencement of the lesson programme. What he or she knows in particular and the level of his or her understanding on each subject being offered. Evaluation reveals the weaknesses and the strengths of your child and this help our teachers to determine if the foundation of your child is strong enough or not. Through the process of evaluation, the best method of teaching and learning suitable to your child will also be determined by our teacher. There are 6 types of learner in class.
1. Above average learners.
2. Average learners.
3. Below average learners.
4. Above average Learners– This category of pupils and students are brilliant, genius and talented especially in the right learning environment. Such as sound school set up and encouragement from parents or guardian etc.
5. Average Learners-This set of pupils and students struggle to catch up in class due to internal and or external factors.
6. Below average Learners– This category of learner are left behind in class due many internal and external factors.
No teacher can bring the best out of any child that lack interest in studying. Before learning can take place in any child, there is need to develop that child interest in the subject or studying generally. One of our core strategies is the high emphasis we place on interest and attention of the learners. This done by first arousing the interest of the learner in the subject and or studying generally, and by setting out persuasive reasons for the necessary difficulty to lessen the study strains.
To arouse the interest of the learner, our tutor adopt method to the experiences which deal with the learner’s everyday life as well as drawing examples with the use of audio-visual local materials and mentioning something familiar to the learner.
In addition, some sort of stimuli such as pictures, charts etc. are used in order to drive home points and promote emotional interest, feeling of joy and sympathy in what the learner is engaged in. Interest is also aroused by involving the student in learning activities as they like doing things by themselves. Elimination of fear in them is also important. Attention follows immediately interest is sustained and learning begins to take it root in the child.
This involves:
1. Speed drilling,
2. Time saving and management,
3. Personal study timetable arrangement,
4. Mock / Trial examination,
5. Practice past question papers with the use of mark scheme,
6. Strategies of answering questions,
7. How mark is being awarded to each question,
8. Questions that carries high mark.
9. Substitution Method– Removing irrelevant answers from the options available to limit your scope of reasoning to limited number of options.
10. Revision Method– Going to cheap questions and solving questions you are sure of first during examination or test before tackling the difficult ones. Etc.
11. It is a form of reinforcing learners towards academic success.
We believe in carrying parents and guardians along in the development of their child’s academic pursuit. We conduct weekly, fortnightly and monthly test and mock examinations with our pupils and students, the results after collation are given to parents/guardians to keep them abreast of their ward’s academic progress on regular basis. This enables parents/guardians follow the trend of our teaching and learning activities with their wards before real examinations or test comes up.
